A deep navy field sets off a luminous cream-and-blue star medallion at the heart of this fine Persian Nain, wreathed in scrolling Shah Abbasi palmettes, blossoms and vines in ivory, powder-blue and soft camel. The rich navy ground gives the design a jewel-like depth, all framed by an ivory border of flowering arabesques and a powder-blue guard.

Nain rugs are prized for their exceptional fineness — knotted at very high density from soft, hand-spun wool, which gives crisp definition to every curling leaf and flower. The deep palette lends a quiet luxury that suits both traditional and contemporary rooms. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand over many months, it carries the subtle irregularities of a true one-of-a-kind piece — an heirloom to be handed down for generations.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum gently on low suction without a rotating brush, and avoid the fringes.
  • Use a rug pad underneath to cushion the pile and prevent slipping.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the natural-dyed colours.
  • Use only a specialist hand-wash rug cleaner for any deep clean.

The rugs of Nain, from the desert-edge city in central Persia, are counted among the finest in the world — famed for their gossamer knotting, their cool blue-and-ivory palette, and the flowing ‘Shah Abbasi’ florals that scroll across them. This example sets a luminous cream-and-blue medallion at the centre of a deep navy field, wreathed in palmettes, blossoms and curling vines, and framed by an ivory border of flowering arabesques. Hand-knotted from fine, hand-spun wool and coloured with natural dyes, it is a genuine one-of-a-kind — an heirloom of quiet, timeless elegance.
