Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A madder red Nain rug with a large oval field edged in small scallops. At its centre sits a round rosette medallion built from rings of finely drawn petals, with slim pendants above and below, and the oval around it is filled with scrolling vines, Shah Abbasi palmettes and small blossoms, mirrored with great precision. The corners outside the oval carry bold curling palmettes and vine tendrils. A wide border of rosettes and palmettes on a flowing vine, between slim guard stripes of small flowers, completes the design.

Hand-knotted in Nain, central Iran, in fine wool. At 204×315cm (about 4.5 tatami) this is a large rug, well suited to a living room, a dining room or a bedroom.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Nain, Iran. Fine wool is naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a gentle sheen and a natural resistance to everyday dirt.

A deep, rich ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

The rugs of Nain, woven in the old desert city of the same name in central Iran, are counted among the finest Persian rugs, admired for their dense, precise knotting and graceful drawing. This piece uses the oval layout, a favourite Nain variation on the classic medallion design. A large oval field, edged with small scallops, holds a round rosette medallion built from rings of finely drawn petals, with slim pendants reaching up and down, while scrolling vines, Shah Abbasi palmettes and small blossoms fill the oval in perfect mirror image. Outside the oval, the four corners carry bold curling palmettes and vine tendrils. A wide border of rosettes and palmettes strung along a flowing vine, between slim guard stripes of small flowers, completes the design. The madder red ground gives the fine drawing real depth and warmth. A large rug like this makes a quiet centrepiece for a living room, a dining room or a bedroom.
