Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep espresso field crossed by a diamond trellis drawn in fine, slightly wavering lines of a lighter tone. The diamonds run across the whole rug and are cut off at every edge, and there is no border, so the trellis simply continues off all four sides.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool. The lines are not ruled straight: each one wobbles a little as it crosses the field, which keeps the grid relaxed rather than rigid. At 198×302cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use in living and dining rooms.

A deep espresso ground hides everyday marks well, but it will show lint and pale fibres, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

The design of this rug is reduced to one idea: a diamond trellis drawn across a deep espresso ground. Look closely at the lines and you will see they are not ruled. Each one wavers slightly as it crosses the field, thickening and thinning, so the grid looks drawn by hand rather than printed. Where two lines cross, small marks gather at the junction, like stitches pulling a net together. The diamonds are cut off at every edge and there is no border, which makes the pattern feel like part of a larger net running beyond the rug. From across the room it reads as a calm, dark surface with a light graphic texture; up close, the irregular lines show the hand that knotted them. It suits a modern living or dining room.
