Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep aubergine field with eighteen squares set in a grid of three across and six down. Each square is a lighter shade of the same aubergine, built from bands of short parallel lines that wrap around a small dark centre. Around the grid the field is plain, with a soft streaked texture that runs across the pile.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool. Everything is drawn in one colour family, so the pattern is carried by light and dark rather than by contrast: from a distance the squares glow softly against the ground, and up close the lines inside each square become visible. At 206×296cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use in living and dining rooms.

A deep, dark ground hides everyday marks well, but it will show lint and pale fibres, and the streaked texture means the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

This rug is drawn entirely in one colour. Eighteen squares sit in a neat grid, three across and six down, each one a lighter shade of the aubergine ground. Look inside a square and you will see it is not solid: it is built from bands of short parallel lines that wrap around a small dark centre, a little like a fingerprint or a maze. Because there is no contrasting colour, the squares seem to glow rather than stand out, and they shift in brightness as the light moves across the pile. The plain ground around them has a soft streaked texture, so even the empty areas have depth. From across the room it reads as a calm, rich block of colour; up close, the lines and the hand-knotted variation in each square appear. It suits a modern living or dining room.
