Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A pale sage green rug with a soft abstract design: faint, broken lines and stepped bars form loose rectangles that fade in and out across the field, as if drawn and partly rubbed away. The whole surface has a streaked texture running across the pile, and there is no border, so the design simply runs to every edge.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool. The lines are only slightly lighter or darker than the ground, so from a distance the rug reads as one calm, light colour, and the rectangles only appear as you come closer. At 197×293cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use in living and dining rooms.

A pale, light ground shows marks, traffic paths and pile shading more readily than a darker rug. Turning it from time to time helps it wear evenly.

This is a rug that you notice slowly. At first it looks like a plain field of pale sage green with a soft streaked texture. Look again and loose rectangles begin to appear: broken lines and short stepped bars, set one inside another, fading in and out across the rug as if they had been drawn and then partly rubbed away. Nothing is sharp or complete, and no two sides of a rectangle match exactly. Because the lines are only a shade lighter or darker than the ground, the design changes with the light and with where you stand. With no border and no central motif, the rug sits quietly in a room, adding texture rather than pattern, which makes it an easy choice for a calm modern living or dining room.
