A hand-woven kilim from Afghanistan, made in 100% hand-spun wool. The golden-camel field is filled corner to corner with a diamond lattice, each compartment holding its own small motif — stars, crosses, hooks and tiny rosettes — in gold, rose, terracotta and cream, worked in soumak embroidery that stands slightly proud of the flat-woven ground.

Rather than one wide border the field is framed by more than a dozen narrow bands of zigzag, diamond and chevron repeats, each different from its neighbours. Being a flatweave it is thin, light and reversible. A one-of-a-kind piece.

Care instructions

  • Always use a rug pad underneath — a flatweave slips easily without one.
  • Vacuum gently with the beater bar off, working along the bands rather than across them.
  • Turn the kilim over every year — it is reversible and wears evenly if used both sides.
  • Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
  • Have the kilim professionally cleaned when needed — never machine wash.

This is a nearly square piece, which is unusual and worth knowing before you buy: at 202 by 231 centimetres it will not sit the way a long rug does, and it suits a square room, a wide landing or a spot beneath a round table far better than a corridor. The design answers that shape. There is no directional medallion and no top or bottom, just a diamond lattice running corner to corner with a different small motif in every compartment, so the rug reads correctly from any side of the room. The whole surface is soumak-embroidered over a flat-woven ground, which gives it a raised texture that catches the light and makes the palette — gold, rose, terracotta and cream, all close together in tone — read as depth rather than as flat colour.

Returns We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition. To start a return, contact our customer support. For a defective or incorrectly shipped item, we cover the return cost and arrange a replacement or refund. For returns due to personal preference such as size, colour, or a change of mind, return shipping is paid by the customer.
