A column of ivory diamond-shaped medallions runs down a bright raspberry red field in this hand-knotted Pakistani Jaldar. Ivory borders of small güls, diamonds and geometric motifs frame the design. The Jaldar is the angular, diamond-gül cousin of the classic Bokhara — descended from Turkmen Yomud and Persian Sarouk designs — and is among the most sought-after of Pakistani rugs.

Pakistani rugs in the Bokhara and Jaldar tradition are hand-knotted from soft, finely spun wool on a cotton foundation, prized for their fine knotting, hard-wearing pile and gentle, silky sheen. Worked entirely by hand, every medallion is drawn a little differently — the mark of a genuine hand-made piece.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Jaldar is a Pakistani rug in the Bokhara tradition, distinguished by its angular, diamond-shaped güls (medallions) — a design descended from the Turkmen Yomud and Persian Sarouk weavings. This example runs a column of ivory diamond medallions down a bright rose-red field, framed by ivory borders of small güls and geometric motifs. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from soft, finely spun wool, it is a hard-wearing, characterful piece with a gentle sheen.
