The same bold checkerboard takes a soft, neutral turn here, with squares alternating between sandy beige and pale ivory, each filled with fine diagonal striations. The result is a warm, monochrome geometry — texture and tone doing all the work — that sits quietly in a room and pairs with almost anything. A calm, contemporary piece with real tactile depth.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool rich in lanolin, the pile is dense and soft underfoot and naturally resistant to everyday wear. The beige and ivory come from the wool and gentle natural dyeing, so the squares shift softly in tone and each diagonal line is drawn by hand — the mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made rug.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

This is the neutral cousin of the checkerboard Gabbeh: the same grid of squares filled with alternating diagonal striations, but worked in warm sandy beige and pale ivory so the pattern reads through texture rather than colour. The tones come from the wool itself with only light natural dyeing, and because each square is knotted by hand the surface shifts gently as the light moves — the honest signature of a hand-made piece.
