A deep madder-red field carries this hand-knotted rug, covered in the all-over diamond lattice of the Saryk Turkmen — interlocking rows of small hooked combs and serrated diamonds in gold, ivory and black, locked edge to edge across the glowing red ground. A broad skirt (elem) panel of bold hooked palmettes finishes one end, the traditional close of a Turkmen weaving. The endless, disciplined repeat is the whole design.

It is hand-knotted in Afghanistan by master weavers working in the older Turkmen tradition, with a fine, even knot count, a low clipped pile and flat-woven kilim ends. The madder red has depth and a gentle, light-catching variation that machine-made rugs can never reproduce. Banded borders of running güls and geometric motifs in gold and black frame the field and draw the whole piece together.

Densely woven and built to last, this is a collector-grade piece — at home as the centrepiece of a formal living or dining room. As a hand-made rug, it is genuinely one of a kind. The pile is low, hand-clipped, with kilim ends.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool coloured with natural dyes, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

This rug repeats the all-over tribal lattice of the Saryk, one of the historic Turkmen tribes of Central Asia, whose weavings are built on the disciplined repeat of small hooked and serrated motifs. Across a deep madder-red ground, rows of combs and diamonds in gold, ivory and black lock together edge to edge, while a broad skirt panel of bold hooked palmettes closes one end in the traditional Turkmen manner. Knotted entirely by hand in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool and natural dyes, the red glows with subtle abrash and no two motifs are exactly alike — the fingerprint of a single weaver at the loom rather than a machine.

Shipping is free on orders of ¥150,000 or more (approx. $1,000 / £790 / €920); orders below that ship at a ¥15,000 flat rate (approx. $99 / £79 / €92). Each rug is carefully rolled and wrapped. Orders are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days, then take 7 to 15 business days in transit. Every order ships with tracking. Import duties and taxes may apply in your country; please contact us before ordering for details.

Returns
For a change of mind, contact us within 30 days of delivery. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. Return shipping is paid by the customer and can be expensive from outside Japan, so please ask us about size or colour before you order. If your rug arrives damaged, defective or not as ordered, contact us with photos within 30 days of delivery: we pay for the return and send a replacement or a full refund.
