Salmon and Espresso Single Column Gül Bokhara, Hand-Knotted Wool Rug

A pale salmon field carrying a single column of Turkmen güls down the centre line — sixteen of them, each quartered and filled with small hooked devices in espresso, cream and gold. Small floral sprays stand between them and along the sides, and the framing is deep for a runner: several narrow guard bands of diamonds and dogtooth, with a broad end panel of stepped forms. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The pale ground is unusual for this weave, which normally runs red or camel, and it lightens the whole effect — the güls read as dark marks on a pale field rather than as bright emblems on a dark one. At 79×299cm this is a runner for a hallway or a landing. A pale ground will show traffic more readily than a red Bokhara would, so it suits a considered corridor rather than a working one.
