Camel and Wine Jaldar Diamond Lattice, Hand-Knotted Wool Rug

A camel field carrying a dense diamond lattice — small stepped diamond güls in staggered rows, each filled with a floral device in wine, navy, green and cream, linked corner to corner by fine diagonal lines so the whole field reads as a connected net. Deep multi-band borders in wine, navy and cream frame it, and a broad end panel of stepped tribal forms closes the design. Woven into that panel is an inscribed cartouche. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool at 11/22 quality. The camel ground is uncommon for this weave and does a specific thing: it sits close in value to the wine and navy of the lattice, so the design reads as an even textile surface rather than as bright motifs on a dark field. At 156×216cm this is a compact rug, suited to a study, a bedroom or in front of a fireplace. A mid-toned ground hides everyday marks better than a pale rug, though less well than a dark one.
